Last week I met Chris Hodgson, of Cleveland foodtruck fame. We’re working with him on ice cream for his new restaurant downtown on Euclid. I love the guy. For maybe 15 minutes he focused his huge energy on coaching me to communicate more using social media, so that the passion we have for ice cream transfers to interested Clevelanders. Point taken, Chris. In addition to our usual Facebook and Twitter posts from Pete, soon I’ll begin posting some comments of my own. Also, I bought a camera.
Beside meeting Chris, I met with Zack Bruell last Saturday to talk ice creams and sorbets for his new downtown restaurant, Cowell and Hubbard. Zack’s a legendary Cleveland culinary authority whom I’ve enjoyed working with and learning from for years.
Last week I was also busy in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on a slew of new flavors. Every day I popped out of bed early with my head full of ideas and stayed in the kitchen late to see if I could make them soar. Not all did, but I’m eager to share a few with you all soon.
It might just be me, but I feel like I’m getting better at my craft all the time. My standards for creaminess, quality of flavor, and purity of ingredients go ever higher. Hopefully this is borne out by the tweaks I’ve made to our older flavors and by the new flavors you’ll be seeing.
